How Horizontal Projectile Motion Works
Horizontal projectile motion occurs when an object is launched parallel to the ground from a certain height. The only force acting on the object after launch is gravity, which pulls it downward.
[Image of projectile motion diagram]Key Formulas Used
This calculator uses the standard kinematic equations to provide instant results:
Time of Flight ($t$): $\sqrt{2h / g}$
Where $h$ is height and $g$ is gravity.
Range ($R$): $v_0 \times t$
The horizontal distance is simply velocity multiplied by time, as horizontal acceleration is zero.
Impact Velocity ($v$): $\sqrt{v_x^2 + v_y^2}$
The final resultant velocity combining horizontal and vertical components.
