Body Mass Index (BMI) is a measure of body fat based on your weight in relation to your height. It applies to most adult men and women aged 20 and over.
BMI = weight (kg) / [height (m)]²
For the imperial system, the formula is adjusted:
BMI = [weight (lbs) / [height (in)]²] × 703
BMI is a simple screening tool, but it doesn't directly measure body fat. It may overestimate body fat in athletes and others with a muscular build, and underestimate body fat in older persons and others who have lost muscle mass.
