Understand Your Results

Your arterial age reflects the health of your arteries based on your CAC score and other cardiovascular risk factors.

After entering your CAC score above and clicking “Calculate”, you’ll see:

  • Your estimated arterial age
  • How it compares to your chronological age
  • A visual representation of your cardiovascular health
  • Personalized recommendations for improvement

How to Use This Calculator

This calculator estimates your arterial age based on your Coronary Artery Calcium (CAC) score. Arterial age represents the biological age of your arteries, which may differ from your chronological age.

Required Information

CAC Score: This is the most important input. You can get your CAC score from a cardiac CT scan. Enter the Agatston score value.

Optional Information

For a more accurate assessment, provide additional risk factors like your age, gender, cholesterol levels, blood pressure, and smoking status.

Understanding Your Results

Your arterial age provides insight into your cardiovascular health:

Arterial age younger than chronological age: Your arteries are healthier than expected for your age.
Arterial age similar to chronological age: Your arterial health is typical for your age group.
Arterial age older than chronological age: Your arteries show signs of accelerated aging, indicating increased cardiovascular risk.

Lifestyle Recommendations

Regardless of your results, these evidence-based strategies can help improve your arterial health:

Dietary Changes

  • Adopt a Mediterranean-style diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and healthy fats
  • Reduce intake of processed foods, saturated fats, and added sugars
  • Increase consumption of omega-3 fatty acids from fish or plant sources

Physical Activity

  • Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise weekly
  • Include both aerobic exercise and strength training
  • Reduce sedentary time by taking regular breaks from sitting

Other Lifestyle Factors

  • If you smoke, seek help to quit
  • Manage stress through techniques like meditation, yoga, or deep breathing
  • Prioritize quality sleep (7-9 hours per night)
  • Maintain a healthy weight

Calculation Methodology

The arterial age calculation is based on research from the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA). The core formula used is:

Arterial Age = 39.1 + 7.25 × log(CAC + 1)

When optional risk factors are provided, the calculator adjusts the results using established cardiovascular risk equations to provide a more personalized estimate.
