Vertical Curve Calculator

Calculate elevations, gradients, and key points for vertical curves in road design

Input Parameters

Units: Metric (m)
Please enter a valid initial grade
Please enter a valid final grade
Please enter a valid curve length
Please enter a valid PVI elevation
Please enter a valid PVI station
Please enter a valid query station

Formula Explanation

The vertical curve is calculated using the parabolic curve formula:

Elevation = PVC Elevation + G₁·x + [(G₂ - G₁)/(2·L)]·x²

Where:

  • PVC Elevation = PVI Elevation - G₁·(L/2)
  • x = distance from PVC
  • G₁ = initial grade (%)
  • G₂ = final grade (%)
  • L = curve length
