Frequently Asked Questions
To accurately measure joints for this sealant calculator, measure the length along the joint line, the width across the opening, and the depth from the surface to the backer rod or bottom of the joint. For irregular joints, take multiple measurements and use the average.
The waste factor accounts for material lost during application, tooling, cartridge changes, and imperfections in the joint. A 10% waste factor is standard, but you may increase it for complex joints or if you’re less experienced with sealant application.
Yes! Our sealant calculator allows you to add multiple joints with the “Add Another Joint” button. The calculator will sum the volume requirements from all joints before calculating the total packages needed.
Cartridges are standard caulking gun sizes (typically 300-500 mL), sausages are larger foil packages for specialized guns, and pails/buckets are for high-volume applications. Our sealant calculator supports all these packaging types.
This sealant calculator provides professional-grade estimates based on standard industry calculations. For critical applications, we recommend purchasing 10-15% more material than calculated to account for variations in joint conditions and application technique.
