How the Ideal Gas Law Works
The ideal gas law describes the relationship between pressure, volume, temperature, and the number of moles of an ideal gas. The equation is:
PV = nRT
Where:
- P = pressure
- V = volume
- n = number of moles
- R = universal gas constant
- T = temperature
To find an unknown variable, rearrange the equation:
- Pressure: P = nRT / V
- Volume: V = nRT / P
- Moles: n = PV / RT
- Temperature: T = PV / nR
